For Kids and Their Grown-Ups: “You Matter” by Christian Robinson
Review by Laura Frantz, collection development librarian
A simple phrase yields powerful results in this wonderfully illustrated book by Christian Robinson. He creates a world that showcases our many connections, while cleverly juxtaposing the concepts of big and small, old and young, near and far. Throughout the book, the message remains the same: “you matter.” It is important, affirmative, and comforting and one we should hear often and share often.
The book teems with quiet moments, serious moments, poetic moments, and funny moments. The sparse text and bright illustrations complement each other. As soon as I finished the book, I had to go back and read it again and again marveling at his artwork and his mantra.
