For Kids and Their Grown-Ups: “Dumpling Day” by Meera Sriram; illustrated by Inés de Antuñano
Review by Laura Frantz, collection development librarian
In rhyming text, families celebrate the delicious dumpling and the many ways it can be prepared. Author Meera Sriram highlights the various versions of dumplings found throughout the world, including samosas, gyozas, palmeni and more. And illustrator Inés de Antuñano showcases a diverse group of families making each dish. Eventually, all the families come together for a potluck picnic sharing the delectable dishes.
This is such a fun book to share with young readers. Sriram includes many thoughtful touches like the terms of family members from various languages (bambino, babushka, saba, etc.) as well as an interactive counting element. Additional back matter includes recipes by Laurel P. Jackson for each of the featured dumplings and other notable facts. This one is a treat.
