For Kids and Their Grown-Ups: “Ducks on the Road: A Counting Adventure” by Anita Lobel

Review by Laura Frantz, collection development librarian

Mama and papa duck take a stroll in the country with their 10 baby ducklings. Along the way, the ducklings are eager to make new friends. They quack hello to a variety of animals. And tend to get a bit distracted along the way. Can mama and papa duck get them back on track?

Author and illustrator Anita Lobel creates a charming and engaging story that works on many levels. In addition to counting, Lobel introduces various animals and the sounds they make. The picturesque countryside setting presents even more ways for grown-ups and kids to delve into other concepts like colors and the natural world. This is a great addition for storytimes and classroom readalouds.
