Review by Laura Frantz, collection development librarian
In this nonfiction picture book, author Carole Boston Weatherford honors Martin Luther King Jr. and encourages children to “be a King.” She connects key moments from King’s life to contemporary times where children can continue his mission and be changemakers in their own community. Weatherford’s text along with James E. Ransome’s artwork creates a powerful visual and presents an inspiring and accessible introduction to King and his legacy for young readers.
This Monday, we commemorate the civil rights icon. And for many, it is a day of service spent volunteering in their communities. To learn more about King and his legacy, explore the Library’s children’s nonfiction collection.
