For Kids and Their Grown-Ups: Author Spotlight: Hena Khan

Created by Laura Frantz, collection development librarian

Author Hena Khan expands her middle grade universe with “Zara’s Rules for Record-Breaking Fun.” The book focuses on Zara Saleem, older sister of Zayd from “Chasing the Dream,” as well as being queen of the neighborhood. Zara feels threatened by new girl Naomi and decides to break a Guinness World Record to get everyone’s attention until she realizes maybe sharing her crown wouldn’t be so bad.

Khan started her career in children’s publishing by writing for Scholastic Book Clubs on various series. Khan, who is a Pakistani-American Muslim, realized she had stories of her own that she wanted to share, “especially ones featuring characters who looked like me and my family.” And her books include “Amina’s Voice,” “More to the Story,” “Crescent Moons and Pointed Minarets,” and “One Sun and Countless Stars.” Explore the many works of Khan here.
