Explore Farming in the Millstone Valley Through Film, Discussion at SCLSNJ

From early Dutch farmers in the 1700s, to the current farm-to-table movement, Somerset County has an affluent agricultural past and present. In partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Somerset County Library of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) will continue to provide residents with the opportunity to learn about local history.

Discover farming stories and more through a screening of the documentary “Farming in the Millstone Valley: Past and Present” at the Hillsborough branch on April 18 from 7-8:30 p.m., located at 379 South Branch Road in Hillsborough. Library customers will connect with the filmmakers Brad Fay of the Millstone Valley Preservation Coalition; Jessie Havens of the Van Harlingen Historical Society; and Fred Frintrup of Visionary Studios through a panel discussion following the screening of the film.

“Somerset County’s agricultural history is a big reason why New Jersey is known as the Garden State,” said Fay. “For three centuries, farming has been the lifeblood of our region, and audiences have enjoyed learning the history of their favorite farms, antique homes, and landmarks. After watching this film, people will be excited to visit the featured farms and markets.”

The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey Common Heritage initiative has been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Exploring the human endeavor.
