SCLSNJ is participating in a statewide initiative in partnership with the New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH) called Democracy Conversation Project. We hope to discover more about what New Jerseyans have to say about the state of our democracy. The tool that SCLSNJ and NJCH are using is called Storybox. These Storyboxes provide a place for New Jerseyans to add their voices to our national story with personal reflections via a series of prompts on preprinted response cards:

  • What does it mean to be a good citizen?
  • What are the main challenges facing democracy today?
  • What do you remember about the first time you voted?
  • Why is voting important to you?

These responses will be collected through Election Day (November 8, 2022). At that time NJCH will be sharing the responses on their website—along with digital submissions in video, audio, and written form—to weave together a wide array of New Jersey voices.

Join the conversation at our Bridgewater, Hillsborough, North Plainfield, Somerville, Warren, and Watchung branches by sharing your reflections about democracy in America.
