With deep regret, Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) announces the difficult decision to cease its extensive library outreach services in Bound Brook, as of January 31, 2025, effectively ending its longstanding partnership with the local community in providing direct library service.

This decision comes after the discovery of asbestos contamination at the Bound Brook Library in October 2023, which led to the suspension of in-person operations. Since that time, the search for an alternative location for continued library services, in collaboration with the Borough of Bound Brook and Somerset County, has been unsuccessful.

As a partnership effort with local municipalities, the County Library Commission relies on the town to provide and maintain appropriate facilities. Unfortunately, with no available building solutions expected within the next five years, the library is forced to cease operations in Bound Brook as it finalizes its 2025 budget.

“We are deeply saddened by this outcome and recognize the impact it will have on the community,” said Brian Auger, SCLSNJ library director. “None of us wanted to reach this point, but after careful consideration and exhaustive efforts, this is the only viable option moving forward. We remain committed to serving Bound Brook residents and look forward to the day when a newly renovated Bound Brook library will once again provide essential services to the community.”

While library services in Bound Brook are coming to an end, Bound Brook residents are welcome to use any SCLSNJ branch in the surrounding area, to continue using online resources and to consider Home Borrowing services ([email protected]) or (908) 458-4938). The library system remains committed to providing quality library resources and programs across the county and looks forward to keeping Bound Brook residents engaged in its offerings at nearby libraries.
